Assuring Shareholder Value

In its September edition, Human Resource Executive (HRE) ran an executive development article sharing several “experts’ views on important things HR executives should keep in mind to stay ahead of the pack in today’s business environment.”  We are pleased to announce that HRE asked for our input on these issues and quoted us several times in this article.

In addition, when covering how to “best serve your board”, HRE reported a Watson Wyatt consultant as suggesting “HR executives bone up on publications from the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) … written expressly for board members.”  Our president and CEO, Mark W. Sickles, is also the president and CEO of the New Jersey Chapter of NACD, and the author of several of these NACD articles, which can easily be viewed on the Publications page of our website, www.markwsickles.com.

The following are our firm’s quotes from the HRE article:

  1. Steps HR Can Take To Foster Innovation: “Train people in the art of inquiry.  If you accept the notion that inquiry is at the core of creating breakthroughs, then it’s crucial for employers to teach the workforce how to put inquiry into practice.  Companies spend millions on training and developing their people.  If there’s a methodology that teaches workers how to manufacture breakthroughs, wouldn’t it make sense to target some of those funds there?”

  1. Ways to Become More Business-Savvy: “Challenge yourself to master a deep understanding of the strategic, organizational and operational implications of free cash flow – income minus investment for growth.”

  1. Learn To Work With Your CEO and Board to Build Shareholder Value: “Understand the challenges of post-Enron boards and CEOs to formulate and implement strategies for delivering shareholder value.”

  1. Become An Outsourcing And Offshoring Expert: “Learn to design, tailor, and leverage culture to maximize the supply of adaptability needed to respond to the “irreversible mega-trend” of outsourcing.  The Internet flattened the world; this is the millennium of India and China.”
